CCA has built a reputation in the HiFi audio industry with its budget-friendly yet highly capable products. I have listened to multiple products from them, but today I want to talk about their latest dynamic driver set, the CCA Phoenix. It’s a very accessible product in their lineup, priced at just Rs 2,319 for the 3.5mm variant(with mic) and Rs 2,599 for the Type-C variant. It houses a 10mm dual-magnet dynamic driver with a Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) diaphragm that gives it a robust performance. I got to try the set recently and put it through its paces, and I would be lying if I say that I don’t like it. It’s a tremendously beautiful set with an immersive sound profile.
Design & Build Quality:-
CCA is widely known for offering great value for money. The Phoenix is no different here, the pair is well crafted with a finely finished full metallic shell, a rare sight at this price point. The material here is a high-quality zinc alloy that feels solid and cold to the touch. With this metal finish, the Phoenix brings a charming look to the play here. I would say the pair is very well-built, when I saw it the first time, I did not expect it to have such a smooth and premium finish for a budget set. These shells look and feel so premium because they are made up of aerospace-grade metal with 5-axis CNC machining.
About the fit and isolation, I am again quite impressed with the set. It provides me with a really nice and comfortable fit. I have been using the pair with the stock ear tips itself, and they are quite good for me. The housing is relatively small despite being metal, sitting flush and comfortable in the ear. So very nicely finished build, durable metallic shells and a comfortable wearing experience. The stock cable is nice here, a braided silver-plated one, and it uses standard 0.78mm 2-pin connectors, which makes cable swapping very easy. Not that you would feel the need to do cable swapping because the stock cable itself is really solid.
Driveability:-
I have tested the CCA Phoenix with several sources in my collection to see how well it scales. For testing the power requirements, I used my Audiocular Spark dongle, and believe me when I say this, the pair is not hard to drive at all. I never faced any issues with power, I never had to push any of my sources to their limits to get the best out of the Phoenix. It can be driven effortlessly with a budget dongle like the Audiocular Spark itself. It’s not that it requires massive juice to get loud, so you don't need a heavy amp to enjoy it. That being said, pairing it with a clean source will obviously give you a noise-free and slightly more refined presentation. Now, let’s talk about sound.
Sound Quality:-
The CCA Phoenix packs a very fun and engaging sound. Just like its sturdy metallic craftsmanship, the sound profile feels very punchy and energetic. From the very first track, it attracts you with a V-shaped presentation that puts a spotlight on the lows and highs. It packs a highly detailed sound for its price bracket that remains captivating. However, because of its energetic nature, it can get a bit tiring after a while during long listening sessions. Let’s describe the sound in depth now.
Lows/Bass:-
Bass on the Phoenix has most of its focus shifted towards the mid-bass region. The mid-bass gets a nice focus here, delivering a heavy slam that is easily felt. Listening to tracks like Billie Jean by MJ, the punch is immediate and produced with exceptional energy. The pair shows great control in the lower end. If you are looking for that heavy slam and quantity, the Phoenix definitely delivers it. I would say the mid-bass is thick and authoritative. The quality is superb for the price. The pair sounds tight and never gets muddy, keeping the rhythm engaging and fun.
Midrange:-
While the midrange is a little pushed back, following that V-shaped profile, it is packed with very good texture. I wouldn't call it a forward-sounding set, but the mids sound thick and have a nice weight to them. On the Audiocular Spark, the pair simply sings, the vocals have a lush texture and never feel lost in the mix despite sitting slightly behind the bass. Instruments in the midrange, like acoustic guitars and pianos, also carry good note weight. Overall, the midrange feels rich and warm, providing a solid foundation even if it doesn't take the center stage.
Treble:-
Treble on the Phoenix is where things get very sparkly and airy. It sounds open, extended, and remarkably energetic. Even when listening to fast and busy tracks like Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, the pair showcases impressive details and keeps up with the pace without breaking a sweat. It brings a huge amount of excitement and life to the music, making it feel very vivid. However, one thing to note here: because it is so sparkly, the treble can get tiring after a while. It’s an aggressive treble response that "treble heads" will appreciate for its airiness, but it might demand occasional breaks during longer listening sessions.
Soundstage and Instrument Separation:-
Technically, the Phoenix delivers a very immersive soundstage. It is much better than other IEMs in this price range. It doesn't sound "huge," but it certainly isn't intimate or congested either. Even during the most congested parts of a track, the instrument separation is really good for the price bracket, allowing for clear distinction between different elements. It creates a very engaging and 3D feel that makes the overall presentation feel precise and well-layered for a budget dynamic driver.
Final Words:-
CCA Phoenix sounds really impressive to me for what it costs. It maintains a fun and engaging sound across the frequency band and packs in a tight slam in the mid-bass section. I have always admired the value proposition of CCA, and I would say the Phoenix looks and feels like a much more expensive set in person. The full metallic shell finish is superb, and the overall shape of the set is really comfortable. Overall, a very good-sounding budget set. What attracts me the most is its immersive staging and thick mids, though the sparkly treble means it's best enjoyed in moderate doses. CCA has delivered a very energetic and precise sound in a beautiful, durable package, I would say!!
